Yamaha YPG525 - DGX520

The new Yamaha YPG525 is the latest keyboard in the "GX/DGX" series of instruments. It was preceded by the GX76, DGX500, and DGX505.

The GX76 was introduced ca. 2000, and it was unique in that it was one of the first portable keyboards to have 76-keys; most had only 61-keys. It featured the Yamaha Education Suite, the Portable Grand Sound, and the DJ set of voices. It was a huge success, and was eventually replaced by the DGX500.

The Yamaha DGX500 did the GX76 one better - it had 88-keys and a floppy disk drive. It had basically the same features, but with updated sounds and components. The DGX505 followed, and replaced the floppy drive with Smart Media card slot and included a new feature called Performance Assistant technology. With Performance Assistant, you could play along with a song on the instrument’s keyboard and produce a perfect performance every time … even if you played wrong notes! That brings us to the present, and the introduction of the YPG525, (known in other circles as the DGX520).
